Join The Nature Foundation at Wintergreen for our family fun events! Take the family for a scenic hike any day of the week or join one of our naturalist volunteer hike leaders for a “Morning in the Mountains” hike. Not only does The Nature Foundation at Wintergreen offer scenic and informational hikes but we also offer family oriented and youth oriented day programs for all members of the family to enjoy. If our outdoor activities are dampened by poor weather, everyone is welcome to come visit The Trillium House to check out our archaeological exhibit, our California King Snake, Robin’s Nook for children, and much more!
Take the Family for a Hike
Our trail system covers an assortment of terrain throughout its 30 miles. The trails contain rugged steep slopes as well as beautiful short strolls for the entire family enjoy.
Our four valley trails are rated easy. Of the mountain trails the two family favorites are the Shamokin Spring Nature Preserve trail and Ravens Roost Park trail. One of the mountain’s best scenic viewpoints is at the end of The Plunge trail (not to be confused with Wintergreen Resort’s popular snow tubing slide). Click here to see the details on all the trails.
A detailed map of all of the trails within Wintergreen maintained by the foundation is available at the front desk of Wintergreen Resort’s Mountain Inn and at Trillium House.
Remember that you are choosing to hike at your own risk. Consider not only age, but the physical condition, maturity, and experience of the people you are taking on a hike. Dress and plan appropriately for weather conditions; Wintergreen Resort is situated in the middle of wilderness. Be careful.
