US Water Supply and Effects of Climate Change

Saturday, January 17th - 7pm

Ken Frederick shares his experience from working with a Washington DC non-profit whose global research in economics and energy has led our nation to better understand the dynamics as well as the limits of resources that affect both economies as well as life styles on our planet.

Ken received his Ph.D. in economics from MIT. He spent 30 years at Resources for the Future researching resource and environmental issues. His most recent research and writings addressed the economic, environmental, and institutional aspects of water resource use and management as well as the potential impacts of climate change on the supply and demand for water and for water planning and management practices. He is the author, coauthor, or editor of nine books and the author of more than sixty published articles dealing with these and other natural resource issues.

He was a member of the National Research Council’s Water Science and Technology Board and served as vice chair of the board’s committee on the Future of Irrigation in the Face of Competing Demands. He was also a member of their committee on Climate Change and Water Resources Management. He was a member of the Water Resources Sector Assessment Team of the U.S. National Assessment of the Potential Consequences of Climate Variability and Change with principal responsibility for analyzing the socioeconomic implications of climate change for U.S water resources. He served as a consultant to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and was a member of the Research Advisory Board of the National Water Research Institute.
