Fall Migration of Song Birds through the Appalachians

Did you know that birds that migrate during the day are guided by conspicuous geographic features such as the Appalachian Mountains, while others that migrate at night navigate by stars and the light of the full moon? Recent research has shown that even the tiniest songbirds have amazing cognitive abilities, including navigational memories for long-distance journeys.  Join Dr. Ashley Peele, Coordinator of the 2nd Virginia Breeding Bird Atlas, Conservation Management Institute, VT in a presentation on these amazing birds and their journey through Virginia’s mountains.  Dr. Peele will also give a brief overview of the second VA breeding bird atlas (VABBA2) project. $15/Member, $20/Non-Member.
