Signs of the Season

Join a Nature Foundation naturalist for a hike through the autumn woods. Enjoy the beauty and explore the how's and why's of fall's changing landscape.
Pumpkin Carving
10am-1pm - $7 per pumpkin
From traditional Jack-O-Lanterns to fancy pumpkin patterns, we have everything you need to get the whole family into the holiday spirit. Let your creative juices flow as you carve your Halloween pumpkins with us.
Fall Face-Painting
10am-4pm - $1
Show the world your season’s spirit with a fall design. Choose from many autumn drawings or start the Halloween season with a holiday display for all to see.
Bulletin Boards
10am-4pmm - $2
Organize your home or offi ce with a bulletin board designed
especially by you. Decorative and fully functional, these bulletin
boards are useful in all kinds of places.
How Many Acorns?
10am-4pm - $1 per guess
Guess the number of acorns in the jar. If your guess is
the closest to the actual number of acorns, you win half
the amount of money from all the guesses (50/50). Winner will be named at 4pm. You need not be present to win.
Seasonal Scents
10am-4pm - $1
Enjoy the scents of the season for months to come
when you make your own apple-cinnamon air freshner
from all-natural ingredients. Keep it for yourself or
make a special gift for someone you love.
Animals in Autumn
11am-noon
Meet and greet live animals! Rockfish Wildlife
Sanctuary will introduce you to feathered, furry and
scaly friends and discuss how different forest animals
use the fall season to deal with the approach of winter.

Cards of Many Colors
11am-noon - $5
3pm-4pm - $5
Make your own fall greeting cards in this fall card-making workshop.
Use our materials and your creativity to create your masterpiece to
share with your family or friends. Register early as space is limited.
Ages 12 and up. Two sessions.
Atlatl Shooting Range
1pm-4pm
Try your hand at the atlatl, an ancient Native American
hunting tool. Join us out on the shooting range and
see if you could have prepared yourself for winter by
stocking up on wild game. Ages 5 and up.
Color's Causes
2pm-4pm - $5
Nature Foundation Executive Director, Doug Coleman,
leads the investigation into the reasons for autumn’s
spectacular displays. Hike with him to bask in fall’s beauty
and get the behind-the-scenes scoop on the season.
Eye on the Sky
7pm - $5
Join Richard Drumm, president of the
Charlottesville Astronomical Society, for an upclose
look at the fall sky. In addition to viewing
the sky's features through telescopes, we'll see
an introductory slide show and hear the stories
surrounding the constellations' names.
